Richmond Bike Park

Under construction - due autumn 2026

Richmond Bike Park

Richmond has never had a dedicated space for cycling, with the nearest facility a 45-minute drive away. Richmond Bike Park is putting that right: a free, purpose-built skills park on the edge of town, designed for riders of every age and ability, from complete beginners to experienced cyclists looking to progress.

Inspired by the popular Devil's Toenail bike park in Wetherby, the project began when local parent Louise Raine spotted the gap and set about doing something about it. Her energy and organisation impressed us so much that, after she approached the CIC for support, we invited her to join us as a Director.

The driving force behind the project remains the Bike Park Committee, a dedicated group of volunteers who have led the fundraising and shaped the design. As an unincorporated association, however, the Committee isn't always able to receive grant funding directly - public funding bodies can be reluctant to remit money to groups without a formal legal structure. This is where Richmond Yorkshire CIC comes in: as a limited company, we provide the financial probity and accountability that funders need, holding and administering the funds raised on the project's behalf, alongside helping bring partners together and supporting funding applications.

Land for the park has been generously provided by Zetland Estates and Rankine Rural.

The estimated cost of the full design and build is £250,000, a significant sum for a project of this size in Richmond, and one the community is steadily working towards.
Grant funders and Social Value Initiatives included National Lottery, Community Sport, North Yorkshire Sport, Community First Yorkshire, John Blenkieron Community Fund, National Highways, TSG Foundation and Broadacres Housing.

Construction is now well underway on the site off Green Howards Road and bordered to the north off Whashton Road, with completion hoped for in October 2026 with an official opening planning for Spring 2027. The Richmond Bike Park will be free for anyone to use - a lasting home for skills, confidence and outdoor fun for the whole town.
