Help Create Richmond’s Bike Park
A Gift for the Next Generation
Richmond has always been a cycling town. From the early days of the Richmond Meet Parade, where bicycles proudly led the way, to the velodrome at the Cricket Club, and more recently the excitement of the Tour de Yorkshire and the UCI World Championships — cycling has always been part of who we are.

Now, we have a wonderful opportunity to continue that tradition by building something special: a Bike Park for Richmond.

This will be a safe, dedicated place where local children and families can:
-
Learn and practise cycling skills
-
Spend time outdoors, getting healthy exercise
-
Ride together with friends and grow in confidence

A Bike Park will give young people a positive focus, help reduce anti-social behaviour, and bring families together — creating a benefit for the whole community
The Story So Far
Our vision started with a simple idea: to give Richmond’s young people the safe, high-quality cycling space they deserve.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, volunteers, and community spirit, we’ve already made incredible progress:

-
Planning secured at a fraction of the cost – what should have cost £20,000 was completed for just £3,000 due to many numerous consultants working pro bono.
-
£35,000 already raised towards construction through community fundraising and local business donations.
-
Huge savings made – with donated materials, machinery, and volunteer labour, we’ve reduced the overall cost from £250,000 to just £100,000.

Now we’re only £65,000 away from making this dream a reality!
True Community Project
There is a dedicated volunteer group of local expertise working on delivering this project with enthusiastic support from the local schools, organisations and businesses.

Community events have successfully brought together local families and supporters to boost the momentum of the project and excited conversations amongst Richmond residents generate new ideas and potential for the project.
Standing Orders
The Best Way to Help

The most effective way you can support us is by setting up a monthly standing order.

Founding Supporters & Major Gifts
For those who wish to make a larger contribution, there are opportunities to become a Founding Supporter.
Significant gifts will be recognised as part of the project’s legacy, with options to support specific features of the park.

Planning Secured
The project now has full planning approval with the decision made unanimously in favour. This strong vote of confidence reflects the importance of the Bike Park for Richmond, and the careful considerations made to integrate it into the heritage, natural surroundings and safely into the local infrastructure. It has also received the full support of Richmond Town Council, further proving the strength of the community and the official backing behind the project. Zetland Estates have generously provided the land, showing real belief in the project.

Construction is due to begin this autumn, and within a year, Richmond’s children and grandchildren could be enjoying their very own Bike Park.

Community Partnership
This project is being delivered in conjunction with Richmond Yorkshire CIC, who have already delivered successful community projects such as the Coast to Coast Passport and the Amazing Neighbours scheme.
Why This Matters
When people think about donating, they often ask: Will this really make a difference?
The answer is a definite yes — and here’s why:

-
A proven success elsewhere: Wetherby Bike Park attracts thousands of visitors every year, with riders coming from up to 20 miles away. On busy weekends, it’s full of families, children, and cyclists of all abilities.

-
Nothing like it nearby: There’s no similar facility within 45 minutes of Richmond. At the moment, families have to travel a long way to find somewhere suitable.

-
Free for everyone: Richmond’s Bike Park will be open to all and completely free to use — making it accessible for every family.

-
In-demand: We expect hundreds of young people to use the park every week.

-
A boost for Richmond: Visitors will come from nearby towns and villages, supporting our local shops and cafés.

-
Better health & wellbeing: Cycling helps children stay fit, reduce stress, and build confidence.

-
Good for nature too: The park will include trees, wildflowers, and shrubs, keeping the land green and giving children a chance to connect with nature as well as cycling.
